The Busy Days Planner from Boxclever Press

The lovely people over at Boxclever Press got in contact with me recently, asking if I’d like to trial some of their stationery items, as they thought their stuff would be my kind of thing (spoiler alert, they were right!).

IMG_4695

A large and very heavy box arrived at my door a few days later, and oh my goodness! They sent me the incredible Platinum set, which includes sticker books, washi, spare inserts, spare rings, a hole punch, and of course, the planner! To see everything they sent check out my unboxing and review video, because in this blog post I’ll be focusing on the main item, the Busy Days Planner.

IMG_4696

Let’s start with the specifics – including the discs and plastic cover, the planner measures 9 x 9 3/4″ (roughly 23 x 25 cm). The pages inside measure 7 1/2 x 9 1/4″ (roughly 19 x 23.5 cm). This is an 18-month planner, so it’s fairly bulky and heavy. For me it would definitely be a desk planner rather than one to carry around. Admittedly it doesn’t weigh as much as my one of my filled kikki.K large planners, but I don’t carry those around either!

If you were used to carrying around a similar disc planner (you know the one I mean 😉 ) or an A5 ringbound this would be no different. And of course, thanks to the disc system, you can add or remove pages as you want to, so if you wanted you could make it as light or as heavy as you wanted!

IMG_4697

Let’s talk about what is inside. The first few pages have some normal stuff such as personal information, year at a glance, etc., But there’s also some really nice additions to that such as in the picture above, where you can set out your plans and goals for the year.

IMG_4698IMG_4699

Each month is tabbed with a different colour, and at the beginning of the month are the above pages for filling out both practical and ‘normal’ planner things such as birthdays and other events for the month, but also some fun pages for filling out dreams and hopes for the month. In the first photo you can also see the last page of each month, where you have space to write down what happened or what you achieved.

One of my favourite parts of these pages is the little addition between the ‘special days’ and ‘birthdays’ boxes, where something to do with the month has been highlighted for you:

IMG_4702IMG_4704

After that we have the month on two pages:

IMG_4701

And the week on two pages:

IMG_4700

Because Boxclever press is a British company they feature UK dates and holidays on the monthly pages. They have other dates and holidays in there as well, but it’s particularly nice to see UK dates in a planner!

I’m a big fan of the horizontal week on two pages layout too. It’s not too different to be complicated when transitioning from another planner, but it’s still a bit different from the norm!

As you may have noticed by this point, the pages are all printed with colours and graphics. Each month has it’s own theme, and these do not repeat in the next year; so September 2017 is different to September 2018. I love these themes. They’re not too much to be overwhelming, but they’re very pretty. If you like decorating it would be easy to follow the theme and do your own thing, or cover up the graphics if you wanted to.

There are various other inserts at the beginning and end of the year:

Plus a folder in which you could add stickers or documents, and they’ve provided a couple of sheets of stickers to get you started!

IMG_4706

The last thing I want to talk about is the quality of the paper, which is just amazing. It’s thick without being too heavy and feels lovely to the touch. I tried out various pens so see if any bled through or showed through on the other side of the page…

IMG_4708

And none of them did! (You may be able to see a slight smudge on the LAMY pen test, but that was done by my hand!).

The punch that comes in the Platinum set I tried out on both multiple papers and something that was laminated – and it had zero problems with those and the holes are clean. The punch is also not as heavy as it looks!

IMG_4711

Final thoughts? I think this is a great desk or home planner. Personally I wouldn’t carry it around but I suppose if I were used to carrying around an A5 it wouldn’t be a problem. The paper quality is brilliant, and I love the style of all the inserts – particularly all those pretty graphics. My main criticism is that I’m not over keen on the thick plastic cover. Though I appreciate it protects the pages I think it should have the name of the planner written smaller, perhaps just in one corner so that it wasn’t so bold and obvious. If I were using this planner I’d replace the plastic front cover with something pretty that I’d laminated – though I’d still keep the back page; as I said, I do appreciate how much it protects the pages!

So there we go! If you’re interested in the Busy Days Planner then take a look over at their website. There are various options on starter sets from just the Busy Days Planner on its own or all the way up to the Platinum Set. And postage is free over £7, woo!

Thanks for reading, and remember to check out my video unboxing and review of the Busy Days Platinum set to see the washi and sticker books 🙂

Brimbles, brimbles sticker club, scrashbook, sticker kit

Brimbles Sticker Club Projects – August

As a cat person, who also loves florals, this kit was pretty much perfect for me. So I wanted to create quite a few projects with it.
The first was a ‘scrashbook’ page, one of my (many!) forms of creative journaling that incorporates styles of scrapbooking, smashbooking, art, and creative journaling. I chose some photos of my cat, Conan, in the garden and journalled about how much he loves to be outside.

IUHGJKPIJKHGHFGFHUJKUIL

I used this paper from the Brimbles shop for my background, as well as a journaling card from a cat kit which is sadly no longer available.
I added colour to the page by dabbing some pink acrylic paint on with a foam brush, then I journalled on the back of the card and attached  it to the page with some paw print washi. Then it was sticker time! Here are some close ups:

I just LOVE layering stickers in little clusters!  Here is the finished layout, there is also a process video for this if you’d like to watch.

As for my other projects, I did a planner spread, of which you can watch the plan with me video here

Then I created a page marker for my planner. I did use my silhouette cutting machine to make the page marker, which I appreciate not everyone has, but you could easily make something like this on your computer and fussy cut it, or simply attach alpha stickers to the top of some card and laminate it.

And my last little project, because I only had one decorative floral sticker left, was to make a mini divider/tip in for my planner for the section where I keep track of my cat’s important details and information.

On this one I dabbed some black ink (just using my fingertips) onto on of the cat stickers so they’d contrast.

And that’s it! And after all that I still have a handful of stickers left to use! If you’d like to read my original post on the Brimbles Blog you can find that here. If you like the look of this ‘Cats in Bloom’ sticker kit then you can still purchase online at the Brimbles Store, or get next month’s kit.

Follow Friday – Trimcraft / The Craft Blog

thumbnail_follow_friday_the_craft_blog_1

Just a short post today to share with you guys the wonderful company that is Trimcraft for #followfriday

Of course, everyone reading this probably already knows who and what Trimcraft are, as they’re responsible for well known brands such as First Edition, Dovecraft, and Simply Creative.

But as well as that The Craft Blog is an incredible source for any crafter – they have tips, tricks, processes, freebies, and giveaways. As well as the ‘inspiration‘ section where their design team, as well as anyone else registered on the site, can post pictures of their creations to share.

They also have a YouTube channel which has both great tutorials and fun videos showcasing the products.

Plus of course their instagram (make sure to watch their instagram stories!), Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Besides their amazing products, what I love about this company is how they really care about being creative and communicating and networking with fellow crafters. Not many other companies provide so many freebies, tutorials, or host so many competitions and giveaways (which yours truly has even won one of!), or make such efforts to stay in touch with their followers.

You may already follow them on instagram, or facebook; but make sure to check out the blog and the website if you don’t already, it really has so many amazing crafty resources.

oh, and P.S. – no I was not paid in paper pads or washi to create this post, I just genuinely love this company 😛

P.P.S – if you have a blog and/or YouTube channel and would like to be featured on a Follow Friday (you can be a regular person, you don’t have to be a craft company!) please contact me using the form on the menu above, or email mspaperlover@outlookcom

Trimcraft Bloggers Event – Christmas in August!

With a good 40% of the items in my craftroom being Trimcraft, when I got an email from them inviting me to their bloggers event, I squealed. I definitely squealed, loudly.

IMG_4649

So on Saturday 5th August a small hoard of bloggers and vloggers descended into the Trimcraft HQ in Nottingham (fun fact, between 2012-2016 I lived ten minutes away from their HQ and never knew!). We were greeted with… Christmas. Just, the most Christmassy Christmas of the Christmasses! They must have worked so hard to do all that, so massive kudos to the Trimcraft staff for their decorating skills!

They treated us to food, drink, and goodies galore! Even kicking things off with a Christmas present for us all…

IMG_4618

We were then introduced to all the gorgeous Christmas ranges and collections for this year:

IMG_4633

Items from the collections were spread all over the tables, and we got our craft on. We got our craft on hard. There were four craft activities during the day, two of which were things I had never ever done before. We made Christmas wreaths with decoupage (patch? maché? I still don’t know which is which)

Next was a quick session of Christmas card making, something I am certainly familiar with!

Those are mine on the left and then a snap of the pile of cards made by everyone. The cards are being donated to a local charity 🙂

The last two were a Christmas cracker:

IMG_4628

And then we made felt tree decorations which I was just… shockingly awful at. Really, truly, hilariously, awful. So much so I don’t have a picture of it (but it is featured in all its grotesque glory in my video of the event, which I’ll have a link for lower down this post). But I had fun making it! And that’s what is important… right? (seriously it’s so bad it’s almost good!)

However, if you were interested in making your own, you can find free templates on Trimcraft’s blog, The Craft Blog.

We also got to have a little nosy around their show room (called ‘Snow Room’ for the day, lolz). I nearly wept when I saw the display of First Edition Paper Pads:

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and so came home time. Though we did not go away empty handed, oh no no no. On our way out we were each presented with the most incredible goody bag featuring SO VERY MANY items from all the Christmas ranges this year. To see what is in the goody bag in detail you’ll have to watch my video, but here’s a photo of everything laid out:

IMG_4654

So a huge thank you to the Trimcraft staff for being the friendliest and most welcoming bunch of lovely people, and for all the hard work they put into the day. It was so much fun to meet new people and to craft away to your heart’s content using gorgeous new products and… not having to worry about cleaning up the mess afterwards!

A “Craftermath”

I’ll have some Christmas crafts up here on the blog in the coming months, so keep an eye out for those.

And lastly, here’s the video I mentioned earlier, which includes a small amount of vlog footage from the day as well as a run through of all the items from the goody bag
